Founder

As a Black woman from North Philadelphia, Tamika understands firsthand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with navigating the education system and workforce, especially as a first-generation college student. Raised in a community where resources were limited but potential was abundant, Tamika witnessed the disparities that exist in education, career access, and workforce representation—particularly for Black youth and Black women. This personal experience is what fueled their passion for creating an organization that bridges these gaps and empowers young Black people to achieve academic success and professional fulfillment.

My Story

How did Embracing You, LLC get Started?

The founding of Embracing You, LLC is deeply rooted in Tamika’s own educational journey. After graduating from Philadelphia's public school system, they pursued higher education as first-generation college student, eventually earning advanced degrees and navigating a complex and often challenging career landscape. Along the way, Tamika realized how essential it is to provide Black youth—especially Black girls—with the tools, mentorship, and opportunities to thrive academically and professionally. This realization led them to focus their doctoral research on studying the lived experiences of Black girls in K-12 systems, shedding light on the specific barriers they face and the resilience they exhibit in the face of adversity.

What do you aim to do?

Through Embracing You, LLC, Tamika aims to offer a holistic approach to education and career development by focusing on three critical areas: K-12 education, career and workforce planning, and racial identity development. Embracing You is committed to creating safe, supportive environments where Black youth—especially Black girls—can receive mentorship, academic support, and guidance in career exploration. By empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed, the organization aims to break down the systemic barriers that have historically hindered their success.

Why this work?

For Tamika this work is personal. It’s about creating a pathway for the next generation of Black women to not only survive but to thrive in an ever-changing world. Through mentorship, professional development, and a commitment to equity, Tamika and Embracing You, LLC are dedicated to ensuring that Black youth and Black women have the opportunities and resources they need to reach their full potential—both in the classroom and in the workforce.
